Zafem’s Grand Premiere Delights Haitian Music Lovers in New York City

Date: July 9, 2023

The eagerly anticipated premiere of Zafem took place on the evening of July 8, 2023, at the renowned Melrose Ballroom in New York City. Fans of Haitian music flocked to witness the first concert by the group following the release of their debut studio album in May, which had generated tremendous excitement among music enthusiasts. The event, which had been sold out several weeks in advance, proved to be a resounding success as the duo, Dener Céide and Réginald Cangé, delivered a magnificent performance that left the ecstatic audience in awe.

The evening was hosted by Carel Pedre, who served as the Master of Ceremonies, setting the stage for an unforgettable night. Accompanied by their talented musicians, Zafem performed a repertoire of approximately twenty songs, including twelve tracks from their latest album, much to the delight of the enthusiastic crowd that stood by their side from beginning to end. Songs such as “Dlo Dous,” “Abrakadabra,” “Le Plein,” “Sanpousan,” and “Lalin Ak Solèy” resonated deeply with the audience, who passionately sang along, creating an electric atmosphere throughout the venue.

The concert began with a touching tribute to deceased Haitian artists, featuring Beethova Obas’ “Kou Siprann.” This heartfelt gesture served as a poignant reminder of the rich musical heritage of Haiti, and the enduring influence of those who have contributed to its vibrant cultural landscape.

Following the overwhelming success of the grand premiere, Zafem is set to repeat the experience tonight, in the same venue, for a second installment of their eagerly awaited concert series. Beyond that, the group has plans to take their captivating performances to other states and countries, allowing a wider audience to experience the magic of Zafem firsthand.

The debut concert of Zafem at the Melrose Ballroom in New York City was an unforgettable event that showcased the duo’s immense talent, charisma, and their ability to connect with the passionate Haitian music community. As the group continues to captivate audiences around the world, their music promises to be a bridge that unites people through the universal language of music.
